Unexpected Inspiration

Just a quick blurb tonight, but before I go to bed, I have to share my enthusiasm and new found inspiration! Through an email forward today, I have been inspired by people. Just people in general...and how creative they can be! First off, major kudos goes out to Liv at LivFilms.com for all her creativity. Yes, she's incredibly sexy and normally ends most of her videos in her underwear, but what really got me to check out her blog site was her talent and creative ideas for short films. I swear, I swear, I swear! =) It wasn't her constant stripping(but it doesn't hurt of course....as even she admits). What's most impressive though is that the girl is very intelligent, well-spoken, and driven to succeed...and it shows! I have no idea where she comes up with this stuff, but alot of her videos are absolutely hilarious and very clever. I particularly like this one and this one. =) My hat's off to you Liv...you've inspired me to start shooting some of my own! (although I'll leave the stripping to you for decency's sake)

Secondly, through watching some of Liz's vids hosted on MetaCafe.com, I stumbled across an entire community of people that create short little videos that are truly amazing. Some are funny, some are informational....and some are even both! One of my favorites so far is KipKay.com who posts an eclectic set of how to and info/hacking videos. Love it! I couldn't stop watching til I saw every single one on his site! Keep up the great work. And then there's sites that are obviously out there for the primary purpose of making a little extra cash. But ya know what? I don't mind the ones that make money off of views, but still offer great entertainment or information to the public (for free). Take SexyTie.com for instance...it's simply that--a video blog site of average girls, being sexy (in a classy way for a change), teaching men how to tie a ties properly. Cool!

Anyways, time for bed, but I just had to give a salute to those creative people out there that have used technology to help entertain & even educate me today... I hope to join your ranks sometime soon! =)

Genuis or Idiot?

I am either a complete engineering genius....or a total idiot! I'm actually not sure which yet. BUT...I think I've figured out a solution to a home improvement dilemma I've had for months---how to move a couple 'several hundred pound' rocks. In the front of my yard I have this flowerbed w/ some rose bushes and 2 rocks in it. I decided at the beginning of the summer that said rocks needed to be moved. One rock (darker) needed to be removed completely and put in the back yard or something and the other (lighter) rock needed to be pulled out of the bushes and put in the front center in order to later put a number address on the rock. (Yes I always have another plan behind everything.)

Well, realizing right away that I wasn't going to exactly be able to just pick up these rocks and move them...I started scheming. My first attempt was with my truck. Hooked a strap to the rock and to the front of my truck and pulled. SNAP! Strap no more...

Second attempt...chain! Pullllllllll! Nothing? Truck not powerful enough...rock wins round 2. (score: rock-2, me-0)

Third attempt--Turn truck around, hook chain to bumper, throw truck in 4x4LOW...time to get serious! Pull! Nothing... Pull again! Nothing! Get a running start and SLAM chain tight with truck....VICTORY! Yes, I successfully pulled said rock out into street. Tried again with second rock and same result. Yes....I'm so smart. Innnnnngenuity!

Pretty quickly afterwards however, I realized thinking it through a step further might have been beneficial. Now that rocks are out in street....how do I move said rocks back? Hmmmmm...

More innnngenuity! Yes, I rigged up a tricky little Y-anchor pulley system using the tree as one anchor and my truck as another. Oh yea....rock-2, johnny-2! Scores even....as long as it works... Well, as you can see by the video, with my handy-dandy little 5million to one ratio hand winch, I yanked that puppy back into place. But the only problem is moving these rocks back and forth #1 dug them deeper into the ground, and #2 has still not removed the second rock. (rock-3, john-2) =(

UPDATE: Yes...I'll admit, for several months, a rock (two rocks actually, working together to increase brain power) has outsmarted me...til tonight. For absolutely no apparent reason...not even thinking about the issue....the solution suddenly popped into my head! "What do I have available for this issue?" I thought to myself....a truck, a chain, and a bunch of wood beams from the ongoing decking project. Hmmmmm...... Innnnnngenuity to the rescue! Here is my plan:

  1. reinforce truck's bedrails with wood planks

  2. attach 4"x4" crossbeam across planks as pivot point

  3. use long 4"x4" as lever to pick rocks up off ground

  4. use truck to move rocks around wherever I need (carefully of course)

Yep...so simple...I can't believe I didn't think of it sooner! This will either work like a charm and I'll feel utterly validated in my ingenuity or it'll fail in a spectacular way that will undoubtedly cause serious damage to my truck, me, and/or my ego. Either way it should be interesting! =) Stay tuned viewers...I'll report back with pics/vids with the outcome... (hopefully not from a hospital bed though) Genuis or Idiot? To be decided....

Armed with a new laptop...here I blog!

Well, here it is...my first blog! Or should I say, PDJ's first blog baby! Yes, I will randomly be referring to myself in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person throughout my blogs... Cause that's what PDJ likes to do (but I don't, so it'll just be him that does it). =) Anyways, back to the topic at hand...my first blog! And it's being done on my brand new laptop! In fact, this is the first new laptop I've ever bought. Wanted one for 2 years now, but forced myself to wait....and wait.....and wait. I've waited for the right price to find a machine with the specs I wanted. Well, it was a little more than my set budget, but not much and I got a killer deal on it so....that's good enough! It is an HP dv6500, fully loaded including webcam and fingerprint reader! How cool is that? Yes, for all of you people out there that have yet to experience a fingerprint reader....behold:

Isn't it beautiful? And somehow (don't ask me how), it works amazingly well. Want to log in? Swipe your finger! Want to unlock it? Swipe your finger! Want to log in to a site or check your email? Swipe your finger! No more passwords...just a quick swipe of the finger and you're in! Way of the future I tell ya! Okay, so obviously I am a bit of a tech geek at heart...ALRIGHT, I'm a big tech geek at heart! Yes, complicated devices such as this fascinate me. The more complicated and electronic it is, the more intrigued I am. And also, if it can be broken...I will break it! But I'll save that little character trait for other posts (plenty of them I'm sure).

Well world...I just wanted to pop in and say hello! PDJ now has a blog... Let the fan base start building! =)
